FarCry 4 Installation Issues
After download and install with Steam the game fails to start. I only see 'running' for a few seconds and then its gone. The required 'Uplay Activation' with the UPlay and the Uplay-account does not work.
Fix
I found "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 4\bin\FarCry4.exe"
and enabled compatibility mode Windows 7 + Administrator mode for this file (right click - properties - Compatibility)
Did the same for the following (this might not be necessary)
- IGE_WPF64.exe
- GDFInstall.exe
Note: the Administrator setting is only needed for activation, you should disable it after you are done
Now if I start the game I get an error missing "MVCR100.dll". Which is part of the"Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package"
This one was installed on my system but only the x86 version, I did use the bundled installer (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 4\Support\Software\VCRedist\vcredist_x64.exe) before all this but that apparently didn't work.
Downloaded the latest version (https://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/download/details.aspx?id=13523) and installed it.
After this I could start FarCry 4 and then Uplay started. The game is now listed in my Uplay account in 'My Games'.
Regular crashes
It is said that driver crashes occur when 'Gameworks' features are used. These are:
- HBAO+ (NVIDIA Ambient Occlusion),
- Enhanced Godrays (NVIDIA Godrays),
- Soft Shadows (NVIDIA PCSS),
- Simulated Fur (NVIDIA Hairworks) and
- TXAA (NVIDIA Anti-Aliasing).
I used below settings and this resulted in fewer crashes.
Quality settings:
- Motion blur - off
- Textures - Ultra
- Shadows - High
- Post FX -Ultra
- Geometry - Very High
- Vegetation- Ultra
- Environment - Ultra
- Water - Ultra
- Ambient occusion - SSBC
- Antialising - SMAA
- God rays - off
- Fur - off
- Trees relief -off
Advanced settings
- Triple buffer - off
- Vsync mode - normal
