Inventory slots management

  • courier
  • combining items
    • you need room in your inventory to combine
    • easiest at the fountain, but, going back would cost gold and experience
    • side shop
    • secret shop
    • sell items
    • consumables (town portal, dust of appearance, ward)
    • some combined items can be disassembled to make new items
    • after buying you can get your money back "in full" by selling quickly
    • some items can be bought at the secret and side shop (like energy booster)

Steam

  • hero builds online: http://www.dota2.com/workshop/builds
    • currently with dota reborn this is the only way to manage your hero builds
  • If published then: steam guides - <user> - content - Guides
  • Stuck at 'finding server'? try again after unselecting lowest ping server
  • play with friend: Add as friend in Steam, Screen:play, Right click on friend, Invite to party, Find match
  • backup your builds from (Note: I don't know if restore is possible):
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\11475137\570\remote\guides

Hero Picking and Dying

  • you start out with 825 gold, pick is -200, repick is -100, random is free. Note: repick after random is -300. If you wait after the timer runs out, gold starts counting down to 0.
  • dying costs 30 x <your level> with as a maximum the amount of 'unreliable' gold you have.
    • hover over your gold to see how much is 'reliable' and 'unreliable'
    • reliable gold you get mainly from killing heroes, couriers, towers and the use of 'hand of midas'
    • spending will lower the 'unreliable' before the 'reliable' gold
  • dying from an attack of a neutral denies the other team experience and gold

Shops and Courier

  • side shop items
    • buy components that are not sold the sideshop when you can
    • think of the side-shop while creating your item-build
  • secret shop dire: you can access standing in the roshan pit
  • secret shop radiant: you can access standing between the trees on the right
  • shift-click in the shop to add its components to the quick-buy window right-bottom
    • you will get a sound signal if your are able to buy a component
    • keep your 'unreliable' gold low and with it the cost of dying (see 'dying costs ..')
    • secret-shop items are marked 's'
  • use speed burst on winged courier (R)
  • return items with courier:
    • drop on courier, or ground+pickup
    • return to stash (E)
  • buy from side-shops: make sure you click in the (smaller) shop-window or items might be bought at the fountain
  • death of Animal Courier
    • grants gold to enemy
    • respawns at the fountain after 140 seconds, items remain in inventory

Stacking and Pulling

General: http://game8review.blogspot.nl/2013/07/dota-2-guide-to-stacking-and-pulling.html

Lifestealer: http://www.dotafire.com/dota-2/guide/jungle-lifestealer-guide-with-a-heavy-emphasis-on-how-to-jungle-1511?page=2#comments

  • Neutrals spawn at 30s, after that they spawn every whole minute 0s but only if (1) the camp is empty and (2) noone has vision of the camp
  • With stacking you make sure the camp is empty just before the moment new neutrals are about to spawn. With pulling you pull neurtals into the creepwave, denying the enemy experience and gold. Timing is different for each camp.
  • Stacking (any camp) is done at every 53s, attack a neutral and let them all follow you out of the camp, new creeps will spawn in the now empty camp, let the original walk back. This may work 1-4 times.
  • Pulling small camp example:
    • at the (radiant) bottom-left camp or (dire) top-right camp just before the creepwave reach the tier-1 tower. At 12/42s, pull creeps out of the camp into the creepwave
  • Connected pulling:
    • remove a tree in the back of the first camp and pull-in the second camp when the first is almost gone

Jungling

  • In the jungle (along the safe lane) there are 1 easy, 2 medium and 2 hard camps
  • When Jungling always kill the biggest neutrals first

Towers and buildings

  • Towers:
    • tier-1 towers (3) are nearest to the enemy
    • tier-2 towers (3) are ouside the base
    • tier-3 towers (3) are just within the base
    • tier-4 towers (2) protect the ancient
  • Using the Glyph button makes your buildings invulnerable for 5 seconds, it has a 5 minute cooldown.
  • Losing a tier-1 tower will reset the Glyph cooldown
  • The ancient is invulnerable as long as a tier-4 tower stands
  • The buildings are extra protected if there are no friendly creeps within range. So it is nearly impossible to destroy buildings behind enemy lines.
  • You can deny deny towers by attacking them when tha have <=10% health. You could wait with the Glyph until the right moment.
  • TODO mention range and melee baracks

Hotkeys

Some useful hotkeys you could play without and maybe are

  • alt-click to "!"-ping
  • ctrl-alt-click to "X"-ping
  • ctrl-click (and hold) to draw a line
  • F9 to pause/unpause
  • shift allows for consecutive actions.
    • for example move-attack around a corner: 'A' then SHIFT+click point 1 then again 'A', SHIFT+click point 2
  • enemy missing: alt-click on its icon in the top
  • enemy has returned: shift-click on its icon in the top

Item specifics

  • temporary drop str/int items or switch power threads before using hp or mana replenish and gain more
  • observer and sentry ward are combined in the inventory to take one slot.
    • Doubleclick on the item to select the type you are going to place.
    • Ctrl+Click to be able to give a ward to your teammate
  • share tango: activate and click hero (in stead of eating a tree)
  • double click on teleport scroll to teleport to fountain
  • double click on blink dagger to jump towards fountain
  • blink dagger has a range of 1200, if you set the target beyond that range you get 960

Other

  • The three lanes:
    • mid lane
    • safe lane - long horizontal along bottom (radiant) or top (dire)
    • hard lane - vertical along left (radiant) or right (dire) side
      • in the 'hard lane' it more likely to get ganked
  • dota 2 animation cancelling
    • a spell or attack takes time to effect (cast animation) during this time you can cancel - this way you can faint a spell
    • the animation of a spell or attack continues after its effect (backswing animation), during this you can initiate your next step (cast spell, moving=orb-walking, etc) NOTE: if you are too early the spell is cancelled
  • if you attack from a lower position you have +25% chance to miss
  • runes spawn every 2 mins, use the clock (mid top) to time it well. Use a bottle to re-fill your bottle AND store the rune for later use.

Abbreviations

Abbreviations are there for people who are to lazy to type, I suspect some people don't even know what they stand for anymore.

  • dota - defence of the ancients
  • Heroes, some examples:
    • wk - wraith king
    • wr - wind ranger
    • ...
  • Items, some examples:
    • bkb - black king bar
    • mkb - monkey king bar
    • tp - teleport
    • ...
  • xp - experience
  • hp - hitpoints / health
  • Hero attributes:
    • str - strength
    • int - intelligence

Other tips

Zeus

  • cast W on ground for true sight

Drow Ranger

NB: life steal only without frost arrows

Juggernaut

  • omni slash starts with mini-stun
  • 1 or 2 auto-attack beteen omni slashes (if enabled?)
  • follow+'blade fury' is closer and smooth, attack+'blade fury' results in stutter
  • escape: 'blade fury'+tp out

Technical

Turn off Xbox DVR through the Registry Editor

Users experiencing low FPS or FPS loss after upgrading to Windows 10 may resolve the issue by disabling the Xbox DVR feature. If you do not have an Xbox account and are not signed into the Xbox App you can disable Xbox DVR by using the Registry Editor.

1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore 2. Set the value of DWORD "GameDVR_Enabled" to 0 3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\ 4. Create key "GameDVR". 5. Create DWORD 32bit called "AllowGameDVR" and set to 0 6. Restart
