Descale
When the Calc / Clean light flashes slowly, Philips wants you to descale the machine:
- Clean the drip tray and the coffee grounds container
- Remove the AquaClean water filter (if any)
- Pour 250ml citric acid based descaler (citroenzuur) in the water tank and then fill it with water up to the Calc indication (looks like a recycle symbol)
- Place a 1.5L container under the dispenser
- Make sure the machine is turned on
- Press the Calc / Clean icon for 3 seconds and then press the start/stop button.
- The descaling procedure lasts 20 minutes. The out-of-water-symbol will light up.
- Empty the water tank, rinse it and then refill it with fresh water up to the Calc indication.
- Empty and replace the 1.5L container
- Press the start/stop button
- The rinsing phase, starts and lasts 10 minutes
- When the descaling procedure is finished, the AquaClean light flashes for a while to remind you to install a new AquaClean water filter
Replace / reset AquaClean water filter
Note:
- When the orange AquaClean light is off, you can still activate an AquaClean water filter, but you will need to descale the machine first.
- You can reuse the filter if you think it can last longer as indicated, the machine will use it as if it is a new filter
Replace / reset AquaClean water filter:
- Shake the filter for about 5 seconds
- Immerse the filter upside down in a jug with cold water and shake until it is filled with water
- Insert the filter into the water tank
- Fill the water tank with fresh water and place it back into the machine
- Press the AquaClean icon for 3 seconds. The start light starts to pulse
- Press the start/stop button to start the activation process
- Hot water will be dispensed for 3 minutes
- When the activation process is finished, the blue AquaClean light goes on

Main settings
- amount of beans - dial +/-
- selection buttons: 1 espresso / 2 espressos / 1 normal / 2 normals
Other settings
- grinding coarse
- NB: factory setting (5) is considered to be ok
- dial is located in the beans reservoir
- only adjust while grinding and try one click at a time
- water temperature
- turn appliance off
- set switch in I position
- press and hold the 1 espresso button until the lights come on
- press the 1 espresso button to select the temperature (low-high, 4 settings)
- press the 1 coffee button to save the setting
- amount of water per selection button
- hold down selection button until the lights come on and the appliance starts making coffee
- press the button again to stop the water and memorize
- water hardness
- NB: this determines the interval the appliance warns you to descale
- turn appliance off
- set switch in I position
- press and hold the round button below the dial until the lights come on
- press the 1 espresso button to select the temperature (soft-hard, 4 settings)
- press the 1 coffee button to save the setting
Descale
Descale the appliance when the round button on the control panel flashes red.
Important!
(from the manual)
- Use citric acid based descalers (citroenzuur). Under no circumstances should you use sulphamic or acetic based descalers.
- Danger of burns. Hot water containing acid flows from the cappuccino maker. Avoid contact.
Short description
| 1. | Turn the appliance on (the red light flashes) |
| 2. | Fill the water tank with descaler up to the level 'A' (100 ml) and add water up to level 'B'. |
| 3. | Place an empty container under the cappuccino maker. |
| 4. | Press and hold the flashing red light button for 5 seconds. The light will stop flashing. |
| 5. | Turn the steam dial on. |
| The descale program will run for about 30 minutes until the water tank is empty and the red light is flashing. |
| 6. | Turn the steam dial off. |
| 7. | Rinse and fill the water tank with clean water. |
| 8. | Turn the steam dial on. The water tank will empty into the container. |
| 9. | Turn the steam dial off. |
| 10. | Fill the water tank again, the machine is now ready for use. |
